How to place a futures order

Futures Trading

What it is

The order form is where you open or close a perpetual futures position. It sits on every perpetual trading page (for example the BTCUSDT Perp page) and, on a phone, opens as an order panel from the trade screen. This article explains each part of the form and what happens when you press the Buy or Sell button.

Spot trading is not available yet, so this guide covers perpetual futures only.

Where to find it

  1. Open the Trade area and choose a perpetual contract (for example from the symbol selector or the markets list).
  2. The form is the panel titled Place Order (on mobile, the order panel opened from the trade screen).

If you open a symbol that does not exist, you see "Symbol not found" with the text "The futures contract you requested could not be found." Choose another pair from View all markets.

Stop Price (Stop orders)The price that triggers the order. A Mark / Last selector chooses which price is watched.

Step by step: place a limit order

  1. Make sure you have USDT in your futures account. If Avbl shows 0, use the transfer icon or the Deposit button to add funds.
  2. Check the margin mode and leverage at the top of the form. Change them first if needed.
  3. Select the Limit tab.
  4. Enter the Price you want to trade at.
  5. Enter the Size, or drag the slider.
  6. Choose TIF if you want something other than the default (GTC).
  7. Optional: tick TP/SL or Reduce Only (see the related article).
  8. Press Buy/Long to bet on the price going up, or Sell/Short to bet on it going down.

Step by step: place a market order

  1. Select the Market tab.
  2. Enter the Size.
  3. Optional: tick Slippage Tolerance and enter a percentage.
  4. Press Buy/Long or Sell/Short. The order is filled immediately at the best available prices.

Buy/Long and Sell/Short

  • Buy/Long opens or increases a long position, or reduces a short position.
  • Sell/Short opens or increases a short position, or reduces a long position.
  • When Reduce Only is ticked and you have exactly one open position on this symbol, only the closing button is shown, labelled Close Long or Close Short.

Order size units

Next to the size field there is a unit button. Open it to see Unit Preference, where you choose to input and display the order size in the contract's coin (for example BTC) or in USDT. The form text reads "Input and display order size in {asset}." and lists both options. Your order is always sent to the exchange as an amount of the coin; the form converts it.

When the size is below the contract minimum you see "Minimum Qty is {minQty} {asset}" under the size field (the app fills in the real number and coin).

What happens after you press the button

  • If the order passes the checks, you see a notification Order submitted with the side, size and symbol. The form is cleared and your balance refreshes.
  • For a reduce-only close, the notification is Close position order submitted.
  • A Limit order that does not match right away stays open. Find it under Open Orders in the orders panel. A Market order appears as a position (or changes your existing position) once filled.
  • If something is wrong you see Order validation failed or Order failed. See the article "Futures order errors and warnings: what each message means".
  • While your order is being sent the button shows a spinner. Do not press it again; the app ignores a second press while the first is still sending.

Some order types ask you to confirm first. See the article "Order confirmation pop-up and the 'Don't display again' option".

When the buttons are not available

What you seeWhy
A Connect Wallet button instead of Buy/SellYou are not signed in. Sign in first. On mobile, the Buy/Long and Sell/Short buttons are shown, but pressing them opens the sign-in window.
"Trading starts in {time}" (a disabled button)The contract is not open for trading yet. When the countdown ends it shows "Starting soon...".
"Orderbook data may be outdated. Trading is temporarily disabled."Live market data stopped updating (often a connection problem). Wait for it to recover or refresh the page.
"Balance data may be outdated. Trading is temporarily disabled."Your balance data stopped updating. Wait or refresh the page.
Buy/Long or Sell/Short is greyed out with a red alertNot enough margin. The alert starts with Buy/Long: or Sell/Short: followed by "This order requires {required} USDT margin, but only {available} USDT is available. Reduce the size or add funds." A Deposit button is shown.
"Maintenance Notice:" "This symbol is temporarily unavailable. Trading data may be limited."The symbol is under maintenance.

Cross vs isolated margin, leverage

These settings apply per symbol and affect every order you place on it. See the dedicated articles on adjusting leverage and on choosing Cross or Isolated margin.

Vouchers

If you have a voucher, a Use voucher option may appear on the form. Voucher rules are explained in the Vouchers articles, and you can see your vouchers in My Vouchers.

FAQ

Why did my limit order not fill? A limit order only fills when the market reaches your price. Until then it stays open under Open Orders unless you chose IOC or FOK, which cancel instead of waiting.

Why is my Buy/Long button grey? Most often the order needs more margin than you have available (see the red alert above the buttons), or market data is temporarily outdated.

Can I place the same order twice by pressing the button quickly? No. The app blocks a second press while the first order is still being sent.

Does the app guarantee the price I see? Market orders fill at the available prices at the moment they reach the exchange, so the final price can differ from the price you saw. The Slippage Tolerance option lets you enter the deviation you accept; see the order types article.

When to contact Support

Contact Support if an order result is different from what the app showed (for example you saw Order submitted but see no order or position). Include:

  • The symbol and side (Buy/Long or Sell/Short).
  • Order type, price and size you entered.
  • The exact notification text and, if it shows one, the request ID.
  • The date and time (with time zone) and a screenshot of the form and the orders panel.

Safety reminder

Futures trading with leverage can lose your margin quickly. Support will never ask for your password, 2FA code, seed phrase or private key. Never share them with anyone.
