Futures order errors and warnings: what each message means

Futures Trading

What it is

When you press Buy/Long or Sell/Short, the app checks the order first. If something is wrong it shows a red notification and does not send the order. If the order is sent but the exchange rejects it or cannot fill it, you see Order failed. This article lists every message and what to do.

Where the numbers in a message come from: the app replaces {...} with the real value (for example the minimum quantity for the contract). Those limits are set by the platform per contract, so check the numbers shown in your own message.

Notification titles

TitleMeaning
Order validation failedThe app found a problem before sending. The description lists each problem on its own line. Nothing was sent.
Order failedThe order was sent, or the app tried to send it, and it did not go through. The description explains why.
Order submittedSuccess.
Close position order submittedSuccess for a reduce-only close order.

Order value and margin messages

MessageCauseWhat to do
"Minimum order value is {minNotional} USDT"The order's value (size times price) is below the contract minimum.Increase the size or price so the value reaches the minimum.
"This order requires {required} USDT margin, but only {available} USDT is available. Reduce the size or add funds."Not enough available margin. The Buy/Long or Sell/Short button is greyed out with a red alert.Reduce the size, or use Deposit / the transfer icon to add funds.
"Order uses most of available balance" (warning)The order needs more than 95% of your available margin. You can still send it, but price moves may leave little room. Consider a smaller size.
"Position value exceeds max {max} USDT for {leverage}x leverage"The position would be larger than the contract allows at your leverage.Lower the size, or lower your leverage in the leverage window (higher leverage allows a smaller maximum position).
"Leverage {leverage}x exceeds max {max}x for this position size"At this position size the contract allows only a lower leverage.Reduce the size, or lower your leverage to the maximum shown.

Available margin (Avbl) is shown above the summary. Open orders and open positions use margin, so your available amount can be lower than your wallet balance.

  5. Refresh the page and try once more. Do not send the same order repeatedly.

FAQ

I pressed the button and nothing happened. Look for a red notification at the screen edge or an alert above the buttons. If the buttons are grey, margin or live data is the cause.

Why does the maximum position shrink when I raise leverage? Each contract has position size limits per leverage level. See the leverage article.
