Order cost, margin, fee and liquidation price preview

Futures Trading

What it is

Under the size field and options, the order form shows a live preview for the order you are building. It lets you see roughly how much margin the order will lock, what fee to expect and where your liquidation price would be, before you press Buy/Long or Sell/Short. The numbers are estimates. The exchange calculates the final figures when the order is processed.

Where to find it

On the Place Order form, below the TP/SL / Reduce Only / TIF options. There are two columns: the left column (green) for Buy/Long, the right column (red) for Sell/Short. On mobile each button has its own details above it: Liq Price, Cost and Fees.

What each figure means

LabelMeaning (from the app)
Avbl (above the form)Your available USDT margin for new orders. Shows "--" if you are not signed in or the balance cannot be read.
Liq Price"Liquidation Price. The estimated price at which your position is automatically closed to prevent further losses beyond your margin." Shows "--" when it cannot be estimated.
Cost"Estimated margin required for this order, including contract minimums, leverage, fees, and adverse price movement." Shown in USDT.
Fee"Estimated trading fee. Depends on your fee tier and whether the order is maker or taker."
Max"Maximum position size based on your available balance, leverage, contract minimums, and current price." Shown in the contract's coin.

Other price labels used on the page:

  • Mark: "Fair value price calculated from the index price and funding basis. Used for liquidation calculations and unrealized PnL."
  • Index: "Reference spot-based price used to derive mark price. Click to open the index price history page."
  • Last: "The most recent trade execution price on this contract."

What changes the preview

  • Leverage: higher leverage means less margin per order (lower Cost) but a liquidation price closer to the market. Lower leverage is the reverse.
  • Margin mode: Cross and Isolated estimate liquidation differently. In Cross mode your other positions and wallet balance also count.
  • Order type and price: for a Limit order the price you enter is used. For a Market order the form estimates a price from the current order book (and uses your Slippage Tolerance if ticked).
  • Side: the Buy/Long and Sell/Short columns are calculated separately.
  • Existing positions: if you already hold a position on the symbol, the preview takes it into account.
  • Reduce Only: an order that only closes your position needs no new margin, so Cost is 0 and no Liq Price is shown for that side. The fee is still shown.
  • Fee tier: see below.

Because prices move constantly, the preview refreshes as the market moves.

Fee level

Hover or tap the % Fee level link to see Your Fee Level with your tier name (it shows Regular User if you have no special tier) and your Taker and Maker percentages.

  • Maker fee applies to an order that adds liquidity (rests in the order book, such as a Limit order that does not fill immediately).
  • Taker fee applies to an order that fills right away against existing orders (such as a Market order).
  • Rates depend on your VIP level. See the VIP articles for how levels work.

Fee Saver: when you have a Fee Saver balance, the fee row shows Fee Saver. Its tooltip says: "Estimated rebate from your Fee Saver balance, applied automatically after the fill (max $5/day)."

Warnings and errors tied to the preview

  • Red alert with "This order requires {required} USDT margin, but only {available} USDT is available. Reduce the size or add funds." and a Deposit button: your Cost is larger than your Avbl. Buy/Long or Sell/Short is disabled until you reduce the size or add funds. The alert starts with Buy/Long: or Sell/Short: so you know which side is short of margin.
  • Yellow warning "Order uses most of available balance": the order needs more than 95% of your available margin.
  • "Position value exceeds max {max} USDT for {leverage}x leverage": reduce the size or lower leverage.
  • "Leverage {leverage}x exceeds max {max}x for this position size".
  • "Minimum order value is {minNotional} USDT".

The calculator

The calculator icon next to Avbl opens the Futures Calculator (tabs and fields such as PnL, Target Price, Liquidation Price and Max Open). The app describes it this way: "See potential risk and reward in monetary terms for any trade. Use our Futures Calculator to estimate profit or loss." It says: "Your open positions are included when calculating liquidation price." and "Open losses are not included when calculating maximum open amount." Results are estimates only.

Adding funds quickly

  • The Deposit button in the alert opens the deposit window for USDT.
  • The transfer icon next to Avbl opens Transfer so you can move funds between your accounts.

FAQ

Why is Cost different from size times price? Cost is margin, not full position value. It also includes allowances for fees, leverage and adverse price movement, as the tooltip says.

Why does Max change? It depends on your available balance, leverage, contract minimums and the current price.

Why is Liq Price "--"? It cannot be estimated yet (for example no size entered), or the order is a reduce-only close.

Is the fee final? No. It is an estimate based on your fee tier and whether the order ends up as maker or taker.

Does a higher fee level lower my fees? The fee level popup shows the rates for your tier. The exact tiers and thresholds are described in the VIP area of the app.

When to contact Support

If the final fee, margin or liquidation price differs greatly from the preview, contact Support. Include: symbol, side, order type, size, price, leverage, margin mode, the preview values you saw (screenshot), the actual values in the position or order, and the time with time zone.

Safety reminder

Liquidation can happen quickly at high leverage and you can lose the margin you committed. This is information, not investment advice. Never share your password, 2FA code, seed phrase or private key with anyone.
