Losses and risk when staking with an agent
Staking with a trading agent can lose money. The app says it on the agent page: "Stakes carry market risk. {agent} trades automatically and past results do not predict future returns." Read this article before you stake and when you see a negative number.
What can happen on a given day
At each daily settlement (00:00 UTC) the agent's realized result for the day is either:
- Profit. Your share is paid to your Funding wallet (see the article on earnings and payouts). Your share depends on your effective weight (principal x multiplier).
- Zero. Nothing is paid and nothing is taken.
- Loss. A share of the loss is taken from your staked principal. Your principal gets smaller and less is returned when you unstake.
How losses are shared
- Losses are shared by principal, not by the multiplier. A 2x lock earns a bigger share of profit but does not take a bigger share of a loss, and a longer lock does not protect you from a loss. Your share of a loss is based on how much principal you have compared with the whole vault.
- If you staked with a voucher, the voucher part absorbs loss first. Only when the voucher part is used up does the loss reduce your own cash. The estimates shown before staking are built on the same rule.
- A voucher is never paid out. Only your own cash principal can come back (see the article on staking with a voucher).
- The lock period does not change the loss rule. A loss can happen on any day while your stake is in the vault.
Where you can see losses
| Place | What you see |
|---|---|
| Agent page, Payouts tab | Δ Principal column. A negative number means principal was taken that day. Earned shows 0 on that day if there was no profit share. |
| Stake Summary on your Portfolio page | Losses, Interest earned and Net profit ("Interest earned minus any losses taken from your staked tokens."). A negative Net profit is shown in red. |
| My stakes, Staked / Vault balance | Your remaining principal after losses. |
| Agent page, Settlements tab | Net PnL of the vault for each day. A negative number is a loss day for the agent. |
| Unstake window | Principal and Amount to Unstake, the smaller amount after losses. |
| Est. total return / Est. ROI | Estimates "after any estimated losses". A negative ROI means recent days averaged a loss. |
Example (illustrative, not real numbers)
You stake with cash only. On a loss day the vault loses part of its value. Your share of that loss reduces your principal by the Δ Principal amount shown that day. Over the lock period the principal can shrink. If you later unstake, you receive the smaller principal.
If you staked with a voucher part, the same loss first reduces the voucher part. Your cash principal is untouched until the voucher part is used up.
Agent paused, full or under maintenance
A paused agent does not accept new stakes, but your existing stake is still in the vault. The app does not describe what a paused agent does with its trades. Your stake keeps its status and its unlock date. Contact Support if you need an update for a specific agent.
Risk facts to keep in mind
- Past performance does not predict future returns. Equity curves, ROI and drawdown only describe the past.
- Max Drawdown is "largest peak-to-trough decline", an example of how much the agent has lost from a high point in the past.
- Risk level (Low, Medium, High) is a description by the platform: "Low = conservative, Medium = balanced, High = aggressive".
- Estimates are "not guaranteed. Actual earnings may vary."
- Your principal is locked for the lock period. You cannot react to a loss by unstaking early.
- Do not stake money you cannot afford to lock and possibly lose part of.
The app does not promise refunds or compensation for trading losses and offers no way to reverse a loss that came from a daily settlement.
Frequently asked questions
My principal went down. Is that a bug? A negative Δ Principal on the Payouts tab means your share of a loss day was taken. That is how the product works. Check the dates and amounts.
Why did I lose money with a 180 days lock? The multiplier only changes your share of profit. Losses are shared by principal.
Does a voucher protect my own money? The voucher part absorbs losses first, so it can reduce the loss on your cash until it is used up. It is not a guarantee, and it is never paid out.
Can I recover losses? Future profit days may be paid, but there is no refund of past losses.
I see a loss in Net profit but my payouts show Paid. Net profit is earnings minus losses. Earnings can be paid while the principal is smaller.
When to contact Support
If you think a Δ Principal or a loss figure is wrong, send: account email or ID, agent name, the dates, the amounts shown in Earned and Δ Principal, and a screenshot of the Payouts tab and of the agent's Settlements tab. Never share your password, 2FA code, seed phrase or private key.
