What is Funding Rate?

The funding rate is a mechanism used in perpetual futures contracts to keep the contract price close to the underlying asset's spot price. When the funding rate is positive, long position holders pay short position holders. When negative, short position holders pay long position holders. Funding payments occur every 8 hours.
